How to keep a parent's or grandparent's voice messages for good

Export the WhatsApp chat with media so every voice note becomes a file, keep that ZIP in two places (a computer and cloud storage), and give the family a way to hear them, such as a printed memoir whose QR codes play the voice. Phones get lost and chats get deleted; a file and a book don't depend on one phone.

Keep the voice notes safe

  1. Open the chat. In WhatsApp, open the one-to-one or group chat that holds the voice notes.
  2. Find Export chat. iPhone: tap the person's or group's name at the top, scroll down and tap Export Chat. Android: tap ⋮ (More), then More, then Export chat.
  3. Include the media. Choose Attach Media (iPhone) or Include media (Android). Without media the export has only the text, and no voice notes.
  4. Keep two copies. Save the ZIP on a computer and in cloud storage. Name it with the person's name and the date.
  5. Gather the family's notes. Brothers, sisters and cousins have their own chats with the same person. Each can export theirs and add it to the same memoir.
  6. Make it easy to listen. A memoir with QR codes lets anyone in the family hear a chapter by pointing a phone at the page.

Use it in ChatGPT

Heardloom Voice Memoir is a ChatGPT plugin. Attach the export and ask, for example:

  • “Turn Grandma's WhatsApp voice notes into a book”
  • “Make a memoir of Dad's voice messages from this chat”
  • “Show me a sample Heardloom memoir”

Questions

Is it all right to keep someone's voice after they die?

Families do it often. Heardloom asks you to confirm you are allowed to use the recordings, and keeps only that one person's notes.

Does Heardloom make a voice clone?

No. It never imitates, clones or analyses anyone's voice; it plays the original recordings.

Can I delete everything later?

Yes. Ask in ChatGPT to delete the memoir, or write to us; recordings and transcripts are deleted at once.
